Photo Album Work

So, I'm trying to build sub-albums into Pictorialis II, and I've got the basic structure working, but there's still a lot to go.
What I still need to do (I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go) is:

  • Indicate Sub-albums from the main display
  • Either, Display a link to the pics that are in an album, but not in sub-albums of that album. (Picture A is in "Holidays" Picture B is in "Holidays > Christmas") Right now, all you get when you click on the "Holidays" album is the display that for the "Christmas" sub-album, no indication of Picture A
  • If an album as sub-albums, but no pictures itself, it needs to find grab a thumbnail from one of the sub-albums
Then there's quite a bit of style cleanup.

So... Untill this is done and I get my pics reloaded, the photo gallery is broken.

UPDATE:I think it's done. I ignored the second of the items on my list and decided that an album can either have sub-albums or pictures, but not both. It all seems to be working as I wanted. I'll share the code if anyone wants, but it is UGLY.

Photo Gallery Thoughts

I've been looking around again at photo gallery software. I like Pictorialis II but there are a few problems with it that I'd like to see resolved. Mostly with how it displays the albums, and the amount of control I have over the pictures.
Today I was looking at iPAP and I must say I'm impressed. It looks good, the administration is easy, and it does most of what I want...
Here's the thing. If it were possible to combine iPAP with Pictorialis II I think I'd have what I'm looking for. The layout and control of iPAP (with thumbnai regeneration, sort order, etc) and the album creation of Pictorialis II (bulk upload, auto resize, etc.) I'd be able to do most of what I want with my photo gallery.
That's not to say if I got all of this I wouldn't be hunting again in a few months, but still. I think I'd be closer to that ideal. Will I attempt to code this Frankenstein's Monster of a photo gallery? Not likely... I don't have the skills nor the time to develop them right now and my life only looks to get busier from this point on. But we'll see. Maybe I'll succeed in hacking one or the other to be a little closer to what I want.

New Camera

TBWITWW and I were wondering around this afternoon and stumbled across a Kodak Six-20 camera that looks like this. And we bought it. It's pretty sweet.Kodak Six-20

Pictorialis II

I'm working on replacing Gallery on my site. Mostly because of the way Gallery constructs the albums, it is nearly impossible to fit it into this site in a way I like, and for this site, at least, I'd like to get everything W3C compliant. It's not there yet, but I'm working on it. I like gallery and will probably use it on other sites. But it's not what I want for this site.
So I'm going with PictorialisII by Mark Ghosh. The reasons for this are:

  • It's built on WordPress, which I've been messing with, so I've got a better grasp of the code than I do with anything else.
  • I talk to Mark regularly on #WordPress on IRC, so when I have a problem, or a suggestion, I can get help with it.
  • It seems to do the job
It's now linked to the right under "Photos" where "Gallery" used to be. Until I get all of the pictures moved, Gallery will still be at its old URI. I've still got some things I need to do with Pictorialis before I consider it done.
  • Update the photo section on the Blog page to work with Pictorialis
  • Use album names in permalinks
  • Function to re-generate thumbnails? (some of the random thumbnails are a bit ugly)
  • Captions for individual photos

But on the whole, I'm very happy with it.
