Friday Five

It's time once again for The Friday Five:

What was...
1. ...your first grade teacher's name?
Mrs. Costigan (I think)
2. ...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
I don't remember if it was Saturday Morning, but Underdog and Mighty Mouse ruled. (Still do)
3. ...the name of your very first best friend?
Jessica, but I don't remember her last name.
4. ...your favorite breakfast cereal?
Honey Nut Cheerios.
5. ...your favorite thing to do after school?

I think watching The Incredible Hulk wins.

Happy Birthday!

TBWITWW is having a birthday today. Hooray. Send her an e-card or something. You can use this address if you don't know her address. It'll get to her.
I use the phrase "The Best Wife In The Whole World" somewhat jokingly, but all in all, I seriously believe that I couldn't have done any better. This is not to say that I think there are better women out there who are out of my reach, but rather that I don't think it's possible to come up with someone who fits my life better. We match in opinion on many things, but there's enough difference that we can actually have discussions that don't suck. Would you spend hours sitting around doing puzzles on a Friday night? We would... and do. So maybe we're old and boring, but we like it that way. It's good to just spend time together. That's what matters, I found a woman who I'm perfectly happy to just spend time with. (Plus she keeps me entertained. This morning after she got out of the shower she said: "I don't remember if I used soap.") And now she's another year older. So the rest of you can be jealous, because I'm the winner. So there.NicoleNicole, I Love You! Happy Birthday.

Faces in the Crowd

So I'm reading Nicole-Bruni.com and she has a link to a Physical Attraction Test and I figure... what the hell... I'll give it a shot.
Surprisingly, it's remarkably good. And fun. You look at different faces and features and such and rate how attractive you find them and then it shows you the face that it thinks you would find most attractive over all. This is what it chose for me:attractive?Yeah, she's cute. but not as good looking at TBWITWW. Now that's one fine woman. Uh-huh.
There were some interesting things that the test said about my choices. While not surprising to me, it was interesting to see how my taste compares with others.

Unique Tastes In Women: You are open to seeing a variety of women as attractive. Sure, women with "movie star" good looks catch your eye, but you are often equally wowed by more normal "cute" women. You are not one to judge people based on their looks. In fact, you're genuinely drawn to women that others might dismiss. Maybe it's because you don't buy into society's checklist for "mainstream" attractiveness. Instead, you notice unique features like a cute nose, beautiful eyes, or a cute butt, that make some women special in your eyes. For you, attraction is about the total package.

True... All true. Turns out according to their little graph thing...my tastes just don't match the mainstream.... well duh!graphAnyway... It's a fun little test.

Cryptonomicon

My first introduction to Neil Stephenson was In the Beginning was the Command Line, which I strongly recommend to anyone with an interest in computers. It's a relatively short read, and is very interesting in a lot of ways. Crytonomicon on the other hand is a looooong book. Coming in at almost 1200 pages in paperback, it takes a while to get through. There are 3 major plotlines, stretching across 50 years. These story lines interweave in ways that keep you guessing at what will come next, and frequently guessing wrong. This book is a great mix of action, cryptography, business, and technology. With as much focus as it has on mathematics and cryptography, it doesn't focus on them to a point that it goes above the head of someone looking just for a good story. And yet, if you have a facination with those things, there's enough depth to keep you interested. This book will definately make it into the category of books I read over again every few years.

Lying in odessa - part one

WIL WHEATON DOT NET: lying in odessa - part oneWow... I've commented on Wil Wheaton's writing before, but this is some good shit yo. If you really want to screw with your mind, wait the 24 hours between each section that he made the "Regulars" wait. I don't even know much about poker and I was sucked in big time. If you're not reading WWDN, you need to. Oh, and buy his damn book... so he'll keep writing and I can get my fix.

Fun with hosting

Here's what's been wrong with my site.Nothing I can do about it, but it's annoying. Not that I get much traffic, but it's also been keeping my mail from going through. Dang. Oh well. Seems to be working again, but we'll see.
