Wristband III

I got a ticket (count 'em ONE) for the Cubs vs. Sox on July 4th. Which is pretty sweet, but presents a quandry. Since TBWITWW works 2 jobs and thereby gets only Major Holidays off from both, it would be tasteless for me to ditch her for a baseball game. So I've got to figure out what to do about this, I figure I've got 3 options:

  1. Be an ass and go to the game anyway.
  2. Sell the ticket and make another fan happy, but not get to see the Southsiders get the spanking they deserve
  3. Try to trade the ticket for the 2nd or 3rd
  4. Get lucky and get a 2nd Ticket

Number 1 is not good for my health, 2 too is probably the most likely and 4 is the best to hope for.

Hmmm... Don't know what to do here... Suggestions?

I had to go back and insert this one because for some reason it didn't post the first time. Oh well.

Wristband II

So, as of right now, my wristband is still somewhat useless. They are up to about 3500. Long way to go to get to my 5298, but I'm not taking it off yet. On the other hand, TBWITWW was able to get tickets on-line for the day after my birthday, when our Boys in Blue will be giving St. Louis (and the crowd cries "Booo!") what-for. Hmmm... perhaps there needs to be a baseball category... also perhaps cycling. We shall see. There are a few other games I'm still going to try for. Perhaps I'll get tickets, perhaps not. The important thing is that this is The Year. Sweet.

I'm number 05298. Sweet. We'll see tomorrow if I can get the tickets I want. They're not cheap. But hey...
Yeah.

Rants and Ramblings

From my brother's page in response to: this:

To me- marriage is a promise to put one person at the top of your list every time. One person comes first no matter what. Complete and total love, adoration, commitment, honor... and commitment- lots of it.

Damn right. I don't think we should be making it more difficult for homosexuals to marry... We should be making it more difficult for anyone to marry. There should be a test or something...

  • Were you paired up by a TV show? If yes, discontinue application and consider yourself rejected.
  • If you have children, will you be responsible for their actions and upbringing? If no, see above
  • Will you be active members of your community?
  • Are you willing to submit to a 5 day waiting period?

Anyway. Marriage should be harder, Divorce should be much harder (except in the case of abuse, but domestic abuse should carry very heavy sentences.) Seriously though. The primary advantage that a marriage sanctioned by a church has, is that most churches require some sort of counseling before the marriage, I think that should be universal. There are questions that you should know the other person's answer to, or you have no business getting married.

As a seperate issue, I've frequently commented on the fact that I don't think any political party is going to do any better or worse of a job running this country. The whole idea of this Amendment that Bush is putting forth, makes me want to clarify this. While the political parties are for the most part indistinguishable (one wants my money to go to other people one wants it to go to companies) but, some Politicians are clearly unacceptable. When people with very left leaning ideas say things such as:

It comes as no surprise to me that, as part of that strategy, George W. Bush wants to take the Constitution, a document that is supposed to limit government and guarantee freedoms to all Americans, away from millions of our fellow citizens who are homosexual.

While those on the far right say:

It robs us of something no one in this country should be robbed of - equality and inclusion in the founding document itself. When people tell me that, in weighing the political choices, the war on terror should trump the sanctity of the Constitution, my response is therefore a simple one. The sanctity of the Constitution is what we are fighting for.

It tells you something... This is bad. This is Wrong. This is Evil. I don't feel that I can understate this. I now have an opinion for the 2004 election:
aobb
Go Here, write to your representative and tell them to oppose this amendment.
Go Here and contact your senators as well.

Freakin Crap.

What the hell. So today I updated my system... a quick

apt-get update

followed by

apt-get dist-upgrade

and a new kernel to boot. Fun. Lots of stuff I haven't tested with the new kernel, but we'll get to it. In the mean time, apparently the unstable version of X is hosed, so I had to try to downgrade that to testing. Then my XF86config4 didn't work. Dammit. An old version with only one monitor set up works okay, other than my USB mouse flaking out. I'll fight with it more tomorrow. Dammit.

Kickin' It Old School

Yesterday after a lovely breakfast with my Parents, TBWITWW called and said "We just got black canvas Chucks in, and they're on sale." and that's why she is TBWITWW. She's so damn cool. And now, thanks to my new Chucks, so am I. I haven't had a new pair of Chucks since High School. Although they're still frighteningly clean, the vast amount of mud and crap floating around in this lovely thaw we've got going should solve that problem but quick.

The Last Nazi

The Last Nazi by Stanley Pottinger is a detective story/thriller. I don't usually read detective type stories, and this book reminded me why. They just don't hold my interest that well. Not to say the book was poorly written or anything like that, I just don't identify with the characters enough to really get into them, but on the other hand, the characters aren't far enough removed from my experience for me to believe their unbelievability. In this book the main character is an FBI detective hunting down a Nazi criminal in the United States. She, predictably, is Jewish. As a sub-plot, she is desperately trying to get pregnant, and is undergoing medical treatment to help with that. There were some surprising twists along the way, but in the end I felt a little dissapointed with the way the ending came together suddenly, almost as if the author suddenly realized that the book had to end in the next 20 pages no matter what.
